Let me just tell you - there are not many female characters in YA fiction that I could so much as merely tolerate, let alone relate to. Definitely not the ones that are 16 years old at that. And then there is Blue Sargent, casually defying every assumption you may or may not have made about teenage heroines or just teenage girls in general. She's just so real! Totally badass while still being allowed to be as emotional or as "girly" as she wants to. Very much giving a shit, but not taking any.

I know she usually wears short messy ponytail and much more clips, but I wanted to draw her with her hair down for once, because I like to imagine her with this hairstyle lately... I feel like she's grown so much since she met the boys and it looks that I like to emphasise it with a  different hairdo, I guess. :D It is mentioned at the beggining of The Raven Boys that her hair is actually cut in a bob, it only gets really spiky and messy when she tries to pull it up in a ponytail, because it's a bit too short for that.

As for the color of her skin... We pretty much only know Blue has black hair, nothing was ever said on the topic of her eye or skin color, but I always kind of assumed she is WOC since many women in her family are either outright described as having brown skin (Orla, Jimi) or showing physical characteristics of a black person (Neeve). I think it's safe to assume Blue's father Artemus is white, because hello, 15th century Wales probably wasn't very diverse, but I actually always thought Maura is either black, Indian, or Latina. Fun fact: The first time I came to contact with The Raven Cycle was in the form of audiobooks (I like to listen to them while I work) and when Calla and Persephone first mention Artemus to Blue, they tell her all the embarassing nicknames Maura used for her father. One of them is, apparently, "puppy", but I've never seen the written version before and was convinced Maura actually called Artemus 'papi'. :D :D :D That's when I thought she must be Latina for sure, but then I read the written version and, well.... Anyway, I'm pretty convinced Blue is bi-racial. Fight me!

Point Right Blue Sargent belongs to Maggie Stiefvater, I claim no ownership of the character used in this piece.
Point Right The quote used in the title is from 'That's Not My Name' by The Ting Tings, because it's awfully fitting.
